I think if I get turned away at the pearly gates, my idea of hell would be at a rock concert for eternity, with some old prat like Mick Jagger or Freddie Mercury screaming into the mike and thousands of fuckwits around me, jumping up and down shouting inanities.

"Whatever you want to call what Freddie had, I have never seen anyone hold 80,000+ people in the palm of his hand like Freddie did"

So much for David Bowie, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger. That's just the one's I've been to and can remember off hand and it excludes Roger Daltrey, Rob Plant a few others on the basis that their band-mates had a bit of charisma, too. And that just the Brits.

Let's be honest it's difficult to make a really shit queen film.

It was absolutely entertaining but it isn't Oscar material.

Somehow his presence and personality filled Wembley Stadium, from front to back.

Thought it was a fairly common quality in a performer

Unlike say .... a charisma bypass like Adam Sandler

You may not like him but Freddie certainly had charisma

Charisma = compelling attractiveness.

Whatever floats your boat Sven.

Freddie Mercury as good family entertainment?
Think that was the criticism
That it wasn’t true to the life of the man

Was never a Queen fan but you had to admire his charisma and showmanship

HairyHammer 7:15 Tue Jan 8
Re: Bohemian Rhapsody wins at Golden Globes.
The fact that the critics hated the film simply because it was not about a ton of butt sex and debauchery made the win even better, although I predict the Oscars will choose their winners differently I would be quite shocked if it won best movie.
As many have said the queen film was good entertainment and directed at the family.

I loved the early stuff. Albums Queen and Queen II. Sheer Heart Attack grabbed my attention first . Night at the Opera and Day at the Races were the last of my favourites . Loved" One Vision" as a single of their latter stuff only.

I think they went downhill after Seven Seas of Rhye, but they were still pretty good for a couple of years.

Re: Bohemian Rhapsody wins at Golden Globes.
I found the non-musical parts of the film a little slow but can forgive that if it was just true to life and there wasn't much to say.
Music sets were great, especially Live Aid but very surprised it would be best picture.
Thought Queen went downhill after Night at the Opera.

I sometimes feel it is ‘easier’ to win an award if you are portraying an actual character such as Mercury or Gary Oldman’s Oscar winning portrayal of Churchill!

Didn’t think BR had the depth of character that ASIB had but both immensely enjoyable watching them in the cinema.
